Kim Jung-on, North Korea’s leader has ordered the country’s nuclear weapons to be made ready for use at a moment’s notice, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
The North Korean leader also said that the country will make its military ready to carry out pre-emptive strikes.
A KCNA bulletin advised that “All the people in the DPRK are now waiting for an order of combat to annihilate the enemy.”
“Under the extreme situation that the U.S. Imperialist is misusing its military influence and is pressuring other countries and people to start war and catastrophe, the only way for our people to protect sovereignty and rights to live is to strengthen the quality and quantity of nuclear power and realize the balance of power,” Kim said, according to KCNA.
North Korea is one of nine countries that are generally recognized as owning nuclear weapons, including (from biggest arsenals) Russia, the United States, France, China, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, India, Israel and North Korea.
There has been ongoing speculation about other countries also possessing nuclear weapons, including Iran, Saudi Arabia and Israel.
