Russia Holds Major Nuclear War Drill Involving 40 Million Russians

Unprecedented Exercise Comes as US-Russian Relations Over Syria Go Sour

Russia is about to hold an unprecedented disaster drill involving 40 million Russian citizens, 200,000 “emergency rescue divisions” personnel and 50,000 units of equipment.

The four day-long civil defense, emergency evacuation and disaster preparedness drill comes at a time that relations between the US and Russia are on the verge of disintegration over the escalating proxy war in Syria with the United States announcing it has cut off all bilateral cooperation with Russia inside Syria.

“The drill will rehearse radiation, chemical and biological protection of the personnel and population during emergencies at crucial and potentially dangerous facilities”, announced The Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters.

“Fire safety, civil defense and human protection at social institutions and public buildings are also planned to be checked. Response units will deploy radiation, chemical and biological monitoring centers and sanitation posts at the emergency areas, while laboratory control networks are going to be put on standby.”

Oleg Manuilov, Director of the Civil Defence Department told Interfax: “Training will be held from October 4 to 7 and will be attended by more than 40 million people, more than 200 thousand professionals rescue units and 50 thousand pieces of equipment.”

“In addition, the alert will be given civil defense structures In coordination with the regional and municipal authorities will be checked by the system of emergency population warning of disaster occurrence, or the threat thereof.” said Manuilov.
