According to a report citing US Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work, NATO is planning on sending 4,000 additional troops to Russia’s borders.
Reports cite that the United States will likely provide two battalaions, with Britain and Germany providing a further two.
Wok claimed the buildup was a response to military activity carried out by Russia in the Baltic region.
“The Russians have been doing a lot of snap exercises right up against the borders with a lot of troops,” Work said in an interview.
“From our perspective, we could argue this is extraordinarily provocative behaviour.”
Russia on the other hand asserts that its exercises are a response to NATO’s buildup and aggressive posture toward Moscow.
Russia’s Defense Ministry says it’s ready for a tit-for-tat response to any NATO military activity near Russia’s borders.
The potential for a military confrontation between NATO and Russia, grows daily with the dangers of a clash spiralling into a nuclear war greater than ever before.
